Pakistan believes in minimum credible deterrence for peace; PM

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani on Friday said Pakistan is a peace loving country which believes in maintaining minimum credible deterrence for ensuring durable peace and stability in the region. Talking to Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Mohammad Afzal Tahir at PM House, the Prime Minister said Pakistan's defence policy is based on peaceful coexistence in conformity with the prevailing geo-strategic environment and national aspirations.
The Prime Minister emphasized the economic importance of sea routes and said Pakistan Navy has an important role to play in protecting the sea lanes and routes besides the coastline of country.
Admiral M. Afzal Tahir informed the Prime Minister that Pakistan Navy is fully capable of defending the country's waters and stands fully prepared to face any challenge.
Chief of Naval Staff extended invitation to the Prime Minister to be the chief guest at the commissioning ceremony of HAMZA Submarine at Karachi by the end of September.-APP
