Special Committee to monitor implementation of NA’s resolution on national security.
ISLAMABAD: The Speaker National Assembly Dr Fehmida Mirza on Monday constituted a 17-member Special Committee of Parliament to monitor implementation of 14-point resolution on national security adopted by both House of the Parliament in joint session. Addressing a news conference, Dr Fehmida Mirza said the committee has been formed in consultation with the Parliamentary Leaders of both Houses of the Parliament to periodically review, provide guidelines and monitor the implementation of the principles framed and roadmap given in the resolution. The committee consists 17 members including Senator Mian Raza Rabbani (Pakistan Peoples Party), Senator Babar Awan (PPP), Sherry Rehman (PPP), Senator Ishaq Dar (Pakistan Muslim League -Nawaz), Mehtab Abbasi (PML-N), Senator Wasim Sajjad (PML), Syed Haider Abbas Rizvi (Muttahida Qaumi Movement), Asfandyar Wali (Awami National Party), Maulana Fazlur Rehman (Jamiat Ulema-e Islam-F), Munir Khan Orakzai (FATA), Senator Professor Khurshid Ahmed (Jamat-e Islami), Senator Abdur Razzaq Thaeem (PML-Functional), Aftab Ahmed Khan Sehrpao (PPP-Sherpao), Senator Abdur Rahim Mandokhel (Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party), Senator Mir Israrullah Zehri (Balochistan National Party-Awami), Senator Shahid Hassan Bugti (Jamhuri Watan Party) and Senator Maulana Sami-ul-Haq (JUI-S). She said the committee shall frame its own rules and for this purpose Mian Raza Rabbani will preside over the committee. Chairperson is yet to be appointed. Dr Fehmida Mirza said the committee has been asked to frame these rules within maximum period of one month from the date of the notification. The membership of the party may be changed by the Speaker in consultation with the parliamentary leader of the respective party. She said the committee would be allowed if it wants to hold open public meetings in the troubled areas, however, she said the other meetings of the committee discussing sensitive matters of national security and visits would be kept secret. The Speaker said the committee may also call for convening in-camera session of the Parliament if it is required, adding that the consensus reached by the committee would also be made public.-APP
