Thin activity at KSE; index gets negligible recovery (30082008)

KARACHI: The freezing of 100-Index has worked at Karachi Stock Exchange (KSE) as the market gained 4.48 points to close at 9,208.26 on Friday, reports said.
However, the turnover volume was thin at 55.789 million shares as prices of 50 scrips recorded gains and 61 sustained loss while 102 remained unchanged.
The market capitalisation was improved by Rs 163 million to Rs 2.881 trillion.
A dealer at a leading brokerage house said the system has allowed both sale bids and purchase offers. But, the volume was very thin due to lack of interest, he added.
NIB was the volume leader with a turnover of 3.042 million shares followed by Zeal Pak 2.329 million shares, MCB 1.618 million shares, PPL 1.198 million shares and Bank Al-Falah 1.097 million shares.
MCB closed at 244, OGDC 97.93, NIB 8.47, D G Khan Cement 39.29, NBP 93.02, Zeal Pak 1.16, PPL 212, Nishat Mills 46.80, PTCL 31.35 and Engro Chemical 181.80.
Sapphire Fiber recorded the highest increase of Rs 6.01 to 219.45 followed by Thal Ltd which moved up by 6 to 133, while Arif Habib Investment dipped by 4.01 to 76.29, and National Refinery went down by Rs 3 to 200.-APP
