Moving troops (28122008)

According to media reports Pakistan has started moving some of its troops from Western borders to Eastern border with India. Though the move and the movement of the forces are both of token nature, nevertheless, message is clear; If Pakistan is put under pressure by India then Pakistan will not play a key role in the war on terror. This move has come weeks after hostile posturing by India, including Sonia Gandhi, the European who leads the congress party and is considered the real power behind the throne.
Pakistan's response was inevitable, we cannot wait till after we are attacked. All Indian moves including summoning of all the Indian Ambassadors to New Delhi is an indication of clear and present danger of war. Pakistan's response is also fair, we cannot be expected to fight random battles with local insurgents, who have really no direct territorial conflict with Pakistan, while we are faced with imminent danger of attack from a neighbor who has never respected or recognized our territorial integrity, this was proven by India working to divide Pakistan in 1971.
The Western world seems to have made a choice by taking sides with India and pressurizing Pakistan a little more every day to do more, this has come to a point where no matter how much we do, it will never be enough for Indians or foreigners. Therefore, we need to say NO and must stop acting as a proxy of foreign powers against our own people.
Apart from moving troops from the Western border with Afghanistan, Pakistan also needs to tell ISAF and their parent countries, like USA, UK and Canada, that given that we are unable to guarantee the security of movement of their cargos and that it poses added challenges to the security of the people of Pakistan, therefore, we are not able to continue with the transit services agreement and the same must be abandoned. This is necessary to make the Americans realize that we cannot be taken for a ride any longer, that we will not fight their wars and be used. It is not in our national interests to be a transit route for American and ISAF supplies into Afghanistan, thus, they should find alternate routes.
However, the problem will not rest or end there. Pakistan nevertheless has a problem of militancy and extremism, but the best way to deal with is to empower the local people in the tribal areas, by making them stakeholders in the local and provincial government. We may also need to allow the tribal people to enact some provincial legislation that incorporates the spirit of Islam to accede to the wishes of the local people. Once people of the tribal area take ownership of their local government and become a stakeholder in the system then the militants will be isolated as a minority who are using religion and militancy for profit. This will result in withdrawal of support from the people, then all that left will be a bunch of bandits who need to be captured and given a fair trial to its logical and legal end.
